Ins and Outs list for Goal Setting

Updated: Jan 6

The tradition of doing an Ins & Outs lists at end of every year to bring in the new year, has been around for some time. However, I don’t recall seeing it so actively mentioned on social media platforms as much as I have  lately. The trend is to use an Ins & Outs list for goal setting.

Well, I’m jumping on the trend. Here’s why I believe it is a great way to hold yourself accountable for what you’ve set out to achieve.

  • Tying an out with an in aligns with the replacement theory of habits. In which it’s theorized that the best way to break a bad habit is by replacing it with a new one.

  • The list focuses on positive actions, as those mentioned under “in” will likely lean towards being constructive.

  • A part of the trend seems to be sharing the list on social networks which adds a layer of accountability.

  • Provides an avenue to move out of comfort zones and into a space that challenges you in the best way.

Here’s my Ins/Outs list:

I know there are some who are not enthused about the new year, over exposing yourself to news and politics can result in that feeling. But I believe the outcome of a year is by and large dependent on ourselves. Let’s do what we can to make it great.
