Natural to Relaxed

Let me just state the obvious:
After 6 years of dealing with my natural coils, I’ve decided to go back to the “creamy crack”, and have put a chemical relaxer in my hair. I am now 3 weeks post relaxer and have no regrets.
Things I learned from being natural:
1. Patience
2. My natural hair is coiled; it’s not curly. There is a difference.
3. Your hair will never look like the YouTuber’s hair, so don’t compare
4. Figure out what your own hair likes
5. Natural doesn’t mean easy nor does it mean get up and go; it requires a tone of time. Natural does not mean chemical free.
6. Natural hair care products work hurst as well for relaxed hair too
7. Both natural and relaxed hair require careful treatment and a dedicated regimen
Things I failed to do when my hair was previously relaxed, that I will do regularly now that it’s back:
1. Silk or satin hair ties that don’t pull the hair
2. Deep conditioning every week
3. No harsh shampoos
4. Air dry most of the time
5. Protein treatments and moisturizing hair products
6. Moisturize and seal or leave in conditioner and seal daily
7. No weave protective or low manipulative styling (unless on vacation where I would style with braids or twist)
You may be wondering what factored in to this decision, well there are assorted reasons. But the primary one; relaxed hair is just my preference.

Until the next Blog,
😘
